Stomatal Regulation and Osmotic Adjustment in Sorghum in Response to Salinity

نویسندگان

چکیده

Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench, one of the most important dryland cereal crops, is moderately tolerant soil salinity, a rapidly increasing agricultural problem due to inappropriate irrigation management and salt water intrusion into crop lands as result climate change. The mechanisms for sorghum’s tolerance high salinity have not been elucidated. This study tested whether sorghum plants adapt stress via stomatal regulation or osmotic adjustment. were treated with seven concentrations NaCl (0, 20, 40, 60, 80, 100 mM). Leaf gas exchange (net CO2 assimilation (A), transpiration (Tr); conductance vapor (gs), intrinsic use efficiency (WUE)), (?w), (?o), turgor ?t potentials evaluated at 40 days after imposition treatments. Plants exhibited decreased A, gs, Tr whereas WUE was affected by treatment. Additionally, adjustment salinity. Thus, appears both regulation.

The Photosynthesis, Na+/K+ Homeostasis and Osmotic Adjustment of Atriplex canescens in Response to Salinity

Atriplex canescens (fourwing saltbush) is a C4 perennial fodder shrub with excellent resistance to salinity. However, the mechanisms underlying the salt tolerance in A. canescens are poorly understood. In this study, 5-weeks-old A. canescens seedlings were treated with various concentrations of external NaCl (0-400 mM). The results showed that the growth of A. canescens seedlings was significan...

Osmotic and hydraulic adjustment of mangrove saplings to extreme salinity.

Salinity tolerance in plant species varies widely due to adaptation and acclimation processes at the cellular and whole-plant scales. In mangroves, extreme substrate salinity induces hydraulic failure and ion excess toxicity and reduces growth and survival, thus suggesting a potentially critical role for physiological acclimation to salinity. We tested the hypothesis that osmotic adjustment, a ...

Dynamic regulation of the root hydraulic conductivity of barley plants in response to salinity/osmotic stress.

Salinity stress significantly reduces the root hydraulic conductivity (Lpr) of several plant species including barley (Hordeum vulgare). Here we characterized changes in the Lpr of barley plants in response to salinity/osmotic stress in detail using a pressure chamber. Salt-tolerant and intermediate barley cultivars, K305 and Haruna-nijyo, but not a salt-sensitive cultivar, I743, exhibited char...

Gas-exchange response and stomatal and non-stomatal limitations to carbon assimilation of sunflower under salinity.

Sunflower (Helianthus annuus) was grown in both open-field and outdoor potted conditions in Southern Italy, and irrigated with water having electrical conductivity ranging between 0.9 and 15.6 dS m(-1) obtained by different NaCl concentrations. The aim of the work was to study the leaf area and photosynthetic responses of sunflower to mild salt stress. The response curve (A/c(i)) of assimilatio...
